In Windows 7 systems, how to set a public network as a private network:

1. Open Control Panel, select “Network and Internet”, and then select “Network and Sharing Center”.

2. In the “Network and Sharing Center” window, select “Change adapter settings”.

3. Find the network connection you want to change, usually the “Ethernet” or “Wi-Fi” connection, right-click and select “Properties”.

4. In the “Network Connection Properties” dialog box, select the “Networking” tab.

5. Under “This network connection is”, select the “Private network” radio button.

6. (Optional) Enable network encryption to enhance security. Check the “Data encryption” checkbox and select the “128-bit WEP”, “WPA-PSK” or “WPA2-PSK” security method. Then enter the password and confirm.

7. Click “OK” to close all open dialog boxes.

8. Restart your computer to enable the network settings.

After the above steps, the selected network connection attribute will be changed to “Private network” and other devices will not be able to access the network, enhancing network security.

Note that setting a wired Ethernet as a private network will not prevent devices outside the router or firewall from accessing the network. For robust private network isolation, it is best to set related rules directly on the router or firewall to completely prohibit external access.

In actual operation, if there are any problems, you can search for solutions or consult technical support at any time. I hope the above methods can help you successfully set up a private network in Windows 7.
